JILL FLEMING GIVES US ADVICE WHETHER WE LIKE IT OR NOT

From the Week of April 6
QUESTION: I've been invited to an "adult only" wedding. I understand and respect this trend, but wondering what constitutes an adult. I have a well-behaved 12 year old. Can I bring her?

JILL'S ANSWER: If there is a question, generally the answer is no. Don't ask the bride, either. This will put both of you in a weird position, and she can't be bothered. By the way, this is based on the assumption that your daughter is invited in the first place. If the invitation is addressed to you and your hubby, or just you, then she isn't invited. If she's your plus one, okay, but I'm not thrilled about it. I say get a sitter (if you have to get a sitter, this whole thing is a moot point, not for nothing) and relish in doing the YMCA with bonafide adults. Make no mistake: Debbie From Accounting will bring her bratty 12 year old, and he'll roll his eyes the whole time. She'll be talked about afterwards. And you, in lieu of waving angry fists at Jill, will be glad you were footloose and fancy-free for the evening.

Be a part of this by sending your own questions for Jill to answer to liza@lizapalmer.com!!
